Collections of ephemera alsways fascinate me. Those paper mementos of what once was modern, actual or marketed as a product are nostalgic and perfectly capture a "zeitgeist". Surely not all scraps are worth keeping, but I still regret throwing away all those diferent versions of dutch train tickets from the seventies. Small cardboard pieces with all kind of colour combinations depending on when, where and how you traveled.
And for all of you who are now thinking of boring, dusty, mouldy and stained pieces of paper. There is none of that, when you dive into ephemera based designs. Let's start right away with some modern interpretations in fabric.
Top left: A design from Suzuko Oseki found on Superbuzzy, Kokka design via Pink Chalk Fabric. Quiltzauberei in Germany offers the fun "Kiss the Cook" line from David Textiles. Last but not least: We definitely can't miss out on Ruby Star Rising from Melody Miller!
Because I couldn't choose here is another set, in a more classic country home style...
From the top left: Maison la Garance from French General, an Alexander Henry design called "Twin Peaks, Eagle Peak Trail", Two Windham fabric designs from the Botanical and Liberty collections (also check out their new series "Floursack" in fresh colours with old mill labels!).
Fabrics is one thing. Paper goods another. Like the stamp below from Crafty Individuals based in the UK (Their store is a bit busy, but has great collection of unmounted stamps) and Mellowmint's wonderful digital ephemera, to spruce up your blog, web site or scrapbook projects!
Cavallini, who's paper goods "live and breathe" ephemera, now also offer paper tape.
And in case you need an idea or two, on how an ephemera design can look in a project. Here's a sweet purse from the ever so lovely Smil, and this truly amazing set of 140 matchbox labels Pavel Fuksa made for a music video from the Navigators. Look at it here.
Ah, at least I still have my old postage stamp and sticker collection somewhere...
love it.
